FUTURE PLANS

UNO has declared Geology as the science of millennium. The Department is updating teaching and research activities to train manpower to face challenges of the future. The thrust areas identified in this direction are metal mining and mineral exploration, Groundwater exploration and management, exploration of oil and gas, mining and environment. The interaction and collaboration with reputed mining and related industries and research institutions is on top of the agenda to develop research programs. The Department has a crucial role to play in meeting short- and long-term requirements of debased industries in this part of the state. A wide variety of new courses such as those in the fields of Remote Sensing, GIS, Ceramic technology and environmental science are proposed to be introduced in due course of time. It is planned to establish a “Centre for Research and Training in Applied Geology” with a view to provide quality education and strong research base to tackle many need-based problems.
