ALUMNI MEET

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY

            Alumni of the P.G Department of Sociology, Karnatak University, Dharwad was  met on 18.02.2006 and decided to form an Alumni Association. An ad-hoc committee with Prof. A.E. Punit, former Chairman, P.G. Department of Sociology, K.U.D., as the President, Prof. A.G. Mudbidri and Prof. U.A Attar, Department of Sociology, K.U.D as Vice Presidents, Chairman, Department of Sociology, K.U.D. as the Secretary and Dr. (Smt.) S.C. Shettar as the Treasurer was constituted to undertake the spade work. Henceforth membership drive was undertaken with a life membership fees of Rs. 500/- with following guidelines:

1. The past students of the Department of Sociology, K.U.D.
2. Teachers who have worked and working in the Department.
3. Sociology teachers who have worked and working in the constituent and affiliated colleges of K.U.D.

            The inaugural function of Alumni Association was held on 20^th June 2006 at Karnatak College, Dharwad. It was inaugurated by Dr. K. Chandrashekharaiah, Rtd, Professor and the founder of the Department of Sociology. At present the Alumni membership exceeded 650.

 

DEVAKI MALLAPPA ENDOWMENT LECTURE:

            Smt. Devaki Mallappa Palled Endowment lecture was initiated in the year 2019 by Dr. Vishwanath Palled, Director, Corporate Social Responsibility at Jindal Steel Works (JSW), Torangallu, Bellary and also the Alumni of the Department who donated Rs. 1 Lakh (one lakh only) to the Department. This amount is kept as Fixed Deposit in Syndicate Bank and interest earned every year is to be used to conduct Endowment Lecture by inviting an expert in the area of “Development related issues”. Smt. Devaki Mallappa First Endowment Lecture was delivered on “State, Environment and Development” by Dr. C.A. Somashekharappa, on 14.10.2019.

• The Second Endowment Lecture was delivered on “Social Inclusion and Development with Special Reference to Dalit Women in Panchayat Raj Institutions” by Prof. S.S. Marji, on 15.03.2021.Sri. S.S. Marji joint Director, Food and Civil Supply Department, Govt. of Karnataka delivering the 2^nd Endowment lecture

 

 

• Third Endowment Lecture was delivered on “Relevance of Constructive Programme towards India’s Smart Villages” by Prof. Shivanand Shettar, on 21.04.2022.
