ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

 The Department of Foreign Languages was started in the year 1962 and the founder of this department was Dr.Kashinath Janardhan Mahale. He was the laureant of the most prestigious award by the French Government called “Chevalier Award” for strengthening Indo-French Cultural Social and Academic relations. The department started with French teaching and Learning, subsequently German language was added to the department with Dr.S.B.Shrotri’s appointment in the department. Much later Russian was also added to the Dept., and those days two ladies from Russia by name Tanya and Pethapova were teaching Russian Courses.

As for the development of the Department, initially only Certificate Course was introduced in French, further Diploma Course , Advanced Diploma Course, Masters-P.G.: M.A in French was introduced. Subsequently Ph.D. course in French was also introduced in the Department of Foreign Langages. Later on German and Russian Languages were introduced, all the above mentioned courses in French were also started in German and Russian.
