The Post Graduate Dept. of Persian and Urdu was started before independence in the year 1945 at the Karnataka College Campus Dharwad under Bombay Presidency.
Then Prof. Bargir(1945-48)was recognized as Post Graduate teacher in Persian. Courses in Persian & Urdu are taught by Prof. Bargir (1945-48) Prof. (1949-55)
Prof.R.K. Mudaliar & Prof. V.Balkrishna(1956).
In 1961 Prof. V. Balkrishna was appointed Prof. Incharge of Post Graduate instruction in Persian & Urdu & Prof.R.G. Jagirdar Prof. H.F.Karmadi & Prof.(Miss) S.A Shaikh were recognized as post graduate teachers.
In 1970 the University organized the teaching of PG courses in Persian & Urdu on an elaborate scale & Urdu was introduced as Principal Subject at PG level along with Persian.
There after two PG Courses ie M.A in Persian & M.A in Urdu were taught. In 1982 Dr. H.F.Karmadi was appointed as Prof. In charge of the Department.
Dr.Shakeela.M.Gorikhan has appointed as Assistant Professor in the PG Dept. of Studies in Urdu & Persian, K.U.Dharwad in the month of February 2014.
At present Dr. Shakeela.M.Gorikhan is the Co-ordinator of the Department.
