ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

History and Development:

The Kanaka Adhyayana Peetha (The Study Chair) was established in 1996. The Peetha was inaugurated on 22nd June 1996 by then Hon`ble Minister for Transportation, Government of Karnataka, Sri Siddaramaiah. With the laudable intention and hope that Kanakadasa’s writings and ideas should reach every home and hearth in Karnataka, to undertaken   study and research on the life and literature of Kanakadasa and other reformers. 

The peetha is conducting Post Graduate Diploma Course in Kanaka Kanaka Studies from the academic year 1998-1999. So far 670 Students have taken up the studies in 26 batches (1998-99  to  2020-21 & P.G. IInd & IIIrd Semester in all P.G Course viz - M.A, M.Com, M.Sc, M.P.Ed, M.Ed, MBA & MCA, MTA, MFA Students are offering Open Elective Course(CBCS) in Kanakadasara Jeevana Mattu Sahitya & Anubhava Saahitya Paramapare mattu Kanakadasaru from  2012-13 onwards.

Kanakadasa, a saint poet of 16th Century was great warrior, distinguished Kannda poet, saint, philosopher, musician, composer, who renounced worldly pleasures to strengthen and propagate peace, love and universal brotherhood in the society through devotional songs like Keerthans and Ughabhoga. His dream was to establish the casteless and creedless society. The Peetha runs as per the decisions taken by the Advisory Committee. The centre has Published 50 Books on life and works of saint Kanakadasa in Kannda, Hindi, English, Marathi, Telugu, and Malayalam Languages
