ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Psychology was founded in the year 1972. It was started under the able leadership of Dr. K. R. Mallappa. Later Dr. A. S Dharanendraiah and Dr. P. S Halyal contributed for the development of the Department. Subsequently Dr. N. B. Havalappanavar and Dr. Nalini Hosur joined the Department.

The Department has made a significant contribution to teaching, research and extension activities during the past 50 years. So far, more than 1000 students have obtained their Masters, 25 M Phil and 80 Ph D degree in Psychology. Most of them have joined various organizations such as academic institutes, hospitals, industries, NGOs and are rendering their valuable services to the society in various capacities.

The Department of Psychology has organized following seminars, conferences and workshops:

• Special Convention of Indian Psychological Association to Celebrate Centenary Experimental Psychology in1979
• National Seminar on Counselling of Post Graduate and Professional Students in 1990
• First Conference of Indian Association of Mental Health (IAMH) in 1997
• 7^thNational Conference of Indian Association of Mental Health (IAMH) in 2011
• 48^th National and 17^th International Conference of Indian Academy of Applied Psychology (IAAP) in 2013
• Awareness for Prevention of Suicide for Social Science faculty of K U D, Police personnel and research scholars(2016)
• Two days Workshop on application of SPSS for PG Students and Ph D Scholars in 2019
• Two Days Workshop on Research Methodology for P G, P G Diploma Students and PhD Scholars in 2021
