ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

History and Development:

 

 

                                

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication has emerged as a major media training and research institute in the country. It was set up to facilitate students to pursue professional skills and knowledge. During the last 40 years, it has carved a niche for itself both among academic and media institutions as a premiere institute in the country. The department has trained over 600 budding journalists and many of our alumni have occupied coveted posts in various media organisations.

Noted journalist Nadoja Dr Patil Puttappa took the initiative to start the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication when Dr R C Hiremath was the Vice Chancellor. In 1982, the department became functional when Dr D M Nanjudappa was the Vice Chancellor, and Dr M R Kumbar, Dean (Social Science), took charge as the co-ordinator. Soon Dr A S Balasubramanya became the chairman of the department. By then, Dr M Gangadharappa had joined the department as a faculty. Dr H K Mariswamy also served as a faculty.

In 2010, M.Sc in Electronic Media Programme was started at the main campus in Karnatak University, Dharwad (KUD). Communication

Career opportunities

Students who have completed their master’s degree have a plenty of opportunities in print and electronic media industry as well as advertising sector, film production, corporate communication, public relations, event management and on various digital media platforms.

 

 

 

Computer Lab & Studio

The department studio is well-equipped with latest production devices and software products.  The Audio-Video Lab offers training in radio and TV programme production techniques.

Endowment Lecture

The department conducts Moharay Hanumantharao Endowment lecture every year. Renowned media person is invited to deliver the endowment lecture.

Communication Club

Communication Club activities are held on every Friday. Well-known media personalities visit the department to share their experiences with our students.

Alumni Association

Alumni are our ambassadors and we have shared a cordial relationship with them from the beginning of our department. Most of them visit our department to share their rich professional experience with our students.
