ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Gandhian Studies was established in the year 1976 with a view to bring the life and works of Mahatma Gandhiji live to our students, general public. The Department offers a one year P.G.Diploma Course. Any graduate is eligible to seek admission to this course. The course is inter-disciplinary in character. Apart from teaching, the thrust areas of research are the study of controversies, social and political philosophy, Swaraj, Satyagraha and comparative studies. Traditional teaching method along with field visits and other innovative practices are followed. The department has all along been conducting workshops, seminars, and inter-religious prayer meetings on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Punyatithi programmes.

               Gandhi Bhavan library has more than 4,905 books and the Department also subscribes many Kannada, English dailies, weeklies and journals.  Social service and Field Work Camp is an integral part of the diploma course. It provides an opportunity for the students to understand the ground level realities in the villages and also helps students to take up Gandhian Constructive programmes to solve the rural problems. This helps the students to understand and realize the Gandhian concept of Gram Swaraj.
