Karnatak Arts College

The Karnatak Arts College was founded in the year 1917 to meet the long-standing demand of the people of this region for higher education. Thanks to the noble efforts of the Late Diwan Bahadur Rodda Shriniwasrao and Rao Bahadur R.S.Artal, who struggled hard to start this College to cater to the intellectual and cultural needs of the Kannadigas. Initially the College was housed in the Government Training College for Men as an intermediate College. Then it was upgraded as a First Grade College and was shifted to the present imperially magnificent building in 1920. Gradually the Honors Courses and Science subjects were started, and the College went on progressing swiftly. In the year 1958, the Karnatak University took over the College for running it as a Model College, bifurcating it for administrative purposes into the Karnataka Arts College and Karnatak Science College, though both the Colleges have continued to be one in spirit. The College celebrated 1998 as the Platinum Jubilee Year. The Inaugural Function of the Jubilee was held in April 1998. The celebration of Platinum Jubilee is characterized by several novel academic plans and projects, and the introduction of Management Courses was one of them.
